An Introduction to Freelance Copywriting

by Ray Edwards

The Internet has dramatically altered the world of communications and business. It has endless amounts of information and created a multitude of new ways to generate money.

Copywriting is one field that is finding great success on the Internet. Freelance copywriting is attracting more of an audience because the freedom and control it offers.

Freelance copywriters have a strong desire to succeed and steer their own career. They mix their own experience and skill with proven copywriting techniques to create a thriving freelancing business. The Internet offers copywriters this freedom. Freelance Internet copywriters can work on more projects and have more opportunities to generate a greater income than their regularly employed positions.

Copywriters write the written content on most advertisements. They help create most radio commercials, television ads, newspaper cut outs, direct response mail ads, web content, and Internet sales letters. Freelance copywriters work for a variety of different clients. They can handpick their work and structure their schedules around their lives.

Successful freelance copywriters need the Internet and skill. Good freelance copywriters see themselves as lifelong students, so continue to educate yourself and increase the quality of your product. Writing everyday and reading books from the experts will also help your business.

A copywriter must be able to sell their client’s products; otherwise they?re just a writer. An important step in copywriting is audience research; you must know your audience in order to be successful. You need to figure out how they are best reached and what medium to use. Research is an important but often overlooked step.

Before you decide to become a freelance copywriter you must know what market in which you want to write. Some copywriters write for a broad range of clients and try to appeal to many different markets. Others specialize down into one field, such as writing web content. In order to please your clients, you must be willing to be a little flexible no matter how specialized you become. Here are some tips that will strengthen your freelancing career:

1. Create a Network. Networking with other copywriters is very important if you truly want to be successful. It gets your name out there and it puts you around people that will stretch your business. Go to seminars and meet people. Don’t forget your local market as well. Watch for local businesses that might need your help and you can also join your local chamber of commerce to make contact with other businesses.

2. Create Your Portfolio. Your portfolio gives potential clients something to look at while they consider your bid. It builds confidence and helps you win projects. It should include examples of your best work, a sales letter explaining why you’re the best copywriter for the job, and testimonials from past clients. Make sure it is organized, professional looking, and neat.

3. Grow Your Own Set of Techniques. It is good to have your own set of copywriting techniques to help set you apart from other copywriters, but they have to be effective. Your ability to sell a product will determine your success, and your ability to do it uniquely will propel you to the top.

This article was supposed to help you see into the world of freelance copywriting. Hopefully you found it helpful. You should look more into this exciting field if it interests you as a possible new career course.

Freelance Copywriting Today

by Ray Edwards

Copywriters write for a wide range of mediums, like: television, radio, magazines, brochures, direct mail, and others. In fact, every word written on advertisement was most likely written by a copywriter. Copywriters are merely salesmen behind a typewriter, they write the written content of an advertisement. Previously copywriters were restricted to working in-house or for a marketing firm, but with the onset of the Internet, independent freelance copywriters are beginning to find a great new career opportunity.

Freelance copywriting allows you to completely control your work experience. Unlike a regularly employed job, you aren’t confined to a strict work schedule; you can work whenever you want. Since you are your own boss, you get to dictate when you work, where you work and how much you earn. You can even work from anywhere that has an Internet connection. You can’t find that kind of freedom in too many different places.

With all its benefits, freelancers also have more responsibility as well. Freelance copywriters have to sell themselves, meet a deadline, and properly budget their resources and time. Freelance copywriters must also know their audience well, so most do research into their target audiences. They also need to be able to effectively and creatively sell a client’s product. But this increased level of responsibility is certainly worth it when you consider the freedom you get over your life when you switch to freelancing.

HOW TO START BEING A COPYWRITER

There are different kinds of copywriters out there, so first you have to choose what you want to do. Some copywriters specialize into a smaller portion of the market, like Search Engine Optimization (SEO) copywriting, while others write for many different kinds of clients and people.

Today, freelance copywriters are expected to write different kinds of copy and produce great work. Even though it can be a bit demanding, freelance copywriting can be a lot of fun and really rewarding if you have the skill, connections, and the drive to succeed.

If you want to become a freelance copywriter, here are some tips to help you succeed:

1. Get educated. If you want to enter the world of freelance copywriting, look into some online copywriting tutorials. There is a lot of information on the Internet that can help you learn more about copywriting. Just search for “copywriting tutorials” and look around. A successful copywriter never thinks they’ve learned it all. On the contrary, successful copywriters see themselves as constant learners.

2. Do some work for free. This is a great option if you lack any real experience as a copywriter. Doing some initial work for free allows you to build a client base and get your name out there.

3. Look for coaching courses. You can usually enroll in some sort of coaching course or workshop with successful copywriters. These are great because you get to learn from the best and learn how to mimic their success.

4. Constantly look for work. There are a lot of copywriters out there, so in order to stay on top of things you need to be vigilant in your hunt for work. Get involved on a freelance Internet marketplace and try to keep up with local businesses that may need your services as well.

5. Build a website. For whatever reason, many copywriters do not have a website. This means that having one can give you an edge over your competition. A website will function like your storefront window: it will display your work for potential clients. So make sure it is neat, organized, and has access to examples of your best work.

These were just a few pointers on how to become a freelance copywriter. Freelance copywriting is a great career that offers many benefits and exciting challenges. If freelancing excites you, then you should do some more research to see if this is the right career for you.

Building your Website Starts from the Inside Out

by Theodore Metagastar

Are you thinking about starting your own website for your personal interest? Whether you are looking at a topic related creative outlet or a site designed to promote a product or service, the first thing you should consider is the tools available to you.

Did you know there are many ways to build a website? You can have simple html or php pages, but you either need to know how to code them. You can use Microsoft Word to write and publish some simple web pages, but this option has pros and cons.

If you are interested in having maximum control over the appearance and performance of your website then you might consider buying one of the many software packages that are available for writing and managing your website. The possibilities are endless, and these packages offer many powerful features.

If you want performance and ease of use you might consider a content management system. These programs do a lot of the work such as building the code behind your website, and give many features such as integrating photos and other media into your site.

There are two very popular content management systems that are available as open source, meaning that the code is freely shared with other designers to create and promote community and free enterprise. Wordpress is a very well known name in content management system, as well as Joomla. Both take a little learning, but are worth the time spent.

Joomla has been around for many years, and offers many great features. Start by visiting their website, look at some of the free templates offered, as well as the plugins. Joomla also has a forum that is well managed and supported.

Wordpress is a very popular content management system. There are many plugins or add on features available as well. Themes can be downloaded at Wordpress, or found at many websites. You can use Wordpress on your own hosted site, and this program can be installed using Fantastico or following the simple installation guides.

If you are thinking of building your own community online, you might consider Wordpress MU. This gives you one installation, and gives control over the plugins and themes, providing continuity and ease of maintenance.

It takes time and energy to build a website, and giving a little thought to the underlying system can save you hours of hard work. Once you delve into your chosen content management system you will find many powerful options available for producing a great website.
