Writing Makes You Think Better

Writing can make you think better? Yes, when you are writing, it will clarify your thinking, or even inspire you.

Have you ever had the problem with clarifying your thoughts? It is hard at times to come clear with what we are thinking and what we have experienced. Try to talk to someone, make them listen and question you as you speak. Do not worry if you are struggling to find the right words, this is a sign that you are rationalizing and bridging your thoughts. You will only understand if you get your thoughts out there.

Many people decide not to write unless they have completely understood their thoughts. This actually stops them from advancing. Just scribble whatever comes into you mind on a piece of paper and you will see how the ideas come together gradually. This is called ‘thinking on paper’. You would not want to risk losing any of the brilliant ideas by keeping them in your head. Record them on paper!

You are actually training your ‘explain power’ while you write down what is only half-understood by yourself. When people are made to put thoughts into logical words and sentences, they are defining the rationale behind what they think and feel. This progression onto a sensible definition is indeed a way to understand and explain unresolved problems to yourself.

Then to help you learn better, it is good to record your ideas in a journal. Another way is to think on papers. Every time when you need to tackle a problem, try to write an idea and explain how you will tackle it on a paper. Try to create an explanation even if you have no idea. You may find out that your explanation turns out a feasible solution at the end.

Writers don’t always write as they already understand something. Hence, if you want to understand a topic, you can write a book of it! We usually write something just because we don’t understand it, and want to have a better understanding.

I strongly agree that writing is a great tool to better thinking. For me, I really have a much better understanding of this thinking method, after I finished writing this article.

You can always write. For example, you can write a letter to your friends about something you are learning. You can also write an explanation of the problem you need to tackle. Writing is such a useful tool for better learning. So start writing now!
